In 1994, our founder Brother Ignatius Hannick wrote a short history of St Patrick’s Care Centre, as it was then known, describing its founding as “an accident,” triggered by his concern for the number of people he witnessed experiencing disadvantage in his community.

Beginning with the distribution of sandwiches from the veranda of the Presbytery at St Patrick’s Basilica in 1972, St Pat’s first home was a rundown former schoolhouse in Fremantle offering meals, showers and basic amenities.

Half a century later and we are an independent not-for-profit and accredited community housing provider, provide a comprehensive range of high-quality services to help break the cycle of poverty and disadvantage, including accommodation, health, crisis intervention and emergency relief, social inclusion and specialist support services.
