Winter – a tough time for our clients
St. Patrick’s Community Support Centre launched their annual winter appeal on Tuesday night, in the hopes of raising funds to help more people stay safe this winter.
A packed house of community members, supporters, staff and clients gathered to hear prominent Aboriginal elder, Shaun Nannup address the crowd. This thought-provoking address was followed by an update on an important new program, Imagined Housing, that aims to engage the community in the search for answers to homelessness. With the catchy tag-line, YIMBY (Yes In My Backyard), the new initiative looks set to implement some innovative new strategies to address the ongoing accommodation crisis facing our most vulnerable community members.
St. Pat’s CEO Michael Piu says winter is a very difficult time of year for people with unstable housing. “With the recent storms and rain, I’m sure many of us can imagine how challenging it would be to cope with this without a secure place to call home,” he said. “Our community needs to rise to the challenge and come together to collaborate around ways to assist our most vulnerable in a meaningful and empowering way.”
