Social housing is for people on very low to low incomes whose income and asset holdings meet criteria as defined by the Department of Communities.

Social housing is an umbrella term for public or community housing, and is run by not-for-profits like St Pat's, who is a registered Tier 3 Community Housing Provider in Western Australia.

Long-term social housing is allocated to people who meet the Department of Communities income and asset eligibility limits and who are on the Department of Communities Joint Wait List for housing, and have indicated that they wish to be considered for Community Housing. Successful tenants will sign a Residential Tenancies Agreement.

Rent

Your rent is charged at 25% of assessable income + Commonwealth Rent Assistance (CRA). Your rent will not be more than 74.9% of the market rent for the property.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Low income

    To be eligible for social housing you must:

    • Have a regular source of income e.g. – wages, Centrelink payments and can evidence as needed
    • Meet the income and asset eligibility criteria set by Department of Communities
    • Be an Australian citizen or permanent resident
    • Live in WA and receive your income in WA
    • Not own or part-own property or land
    • Be able to meet ID requirements
    • Be 16 years of age or above
