In 2024, Deb presented at St Pat’s Oral Health clinic with a number of chronic, untreated dental issues which along with being painful, were having a significant impact on her self-esteem. Deb was very nervous and anxious to be at the dentist, but with support from Djenabidet Kalleep and her partner, Steve, she was able to get through her first appointment.
Deb’s trust and confidence grew with each session, and soon she and Steve were fitted with a new pair of dentures. The couple, who were experiencing homelessness, relocated to a regional area during this process but despite the logistical challenges, the Djenabidet Kalleep and Oral Health team were able to work together to coordinate appointments, reduce travel costs and ensure continuity of care.
Upon receiving dentures, Deb and Steve’s expressed their gratitude to the team, saying their sense of self-worth had improved by leaps and bounds, as had their confidence and wellbeing.
