Lana’s Story

Your support can make a difference to a family this winter.

Single Mum, Lana*, and her children were happily getting by when her two-year-old suddenly became very unwell.

Juggling work and caring for a sick child was extremely challenging. Before she knew it, she lost her job and could no longer afford to pay her rent.

Lana and her children couch surfed with friends for a few months after being evicted from their home. After exhausting all her options, the family ended up sleeping in their car.

When St Pat’s Outreach Team went and visited Lana they found that she and her children had very little warm clothing or blankets, and were running out of food. St Pat’s HEART Team (Homeless Engagement Assessment Response Team), gathered essential items and put the family up in a hotel until more suitable accommodation could be found.

Lana and her children moved into a supported accommodation program provided by one of St Pat’s partners, while she got back on her feet. The HEART team were then able to secure a long-term home for the family.

If you, like us, are passionate about making a difference to the lives of people facing homelessness, then financial donations can increase the impact of your support.

Your cash could support much needed specialist services or give people doing it tough the sense of dignity and joy of shopping for and choosing their own items, which many of us take for granted. Imagine the difference between being given a bag of food you didn’t choose, or getting a supermarket voucher to buy the things you or your family needs?

Our Op-Shop and Community Store accepts donations of lovingly used clothes, furniture and homewares. The money we raise from any items sold goes back into funding our services and programs, helping us support our community’s most vulnerable.
